Two-day training workshop on “Fostering Scientific Research and Innovation in Pakistan” is organized by Department of Physics on August 1-2, 2019. The objective of this workshop is to promote the research culture in Pakistan and to train the faculty members and students about research publications and patents, as these two are important indicators for science, technology and innovation system. Mrs Asma Khurshid, Incharge department of Physics, is convener of this workshop. First day of “Fostering Scientific Research and Innovation in Pakistan” in Jinah Auditorium is successfully completed today. Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq (ViceChancellor, GCWUF) and Dr. M. Shakil Ahmad (Assistant Professor, COMSATS University Islamabad, Attock Campus) were the resource persons on day first. Mrs Asma Khurshid,Convener, welcomed the participants and underscored the importance of such training workshop, And Dr. Zilly Huma Nazli (Coordinator Sci. & Tech.) appreciated this training workshop. Initially, Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq (Vice Chancellor, GCWUF) gave an impetus talk on “patents” and pointed out the role of patents as indicators of research productivity and innovation quality. She discussed the importance and requirements of patents, patentable things, process of patents and it’s commeralization. After tea break, Dr. M. Shakil Ahmad gave training on how to write an effective research paper in a short time. His talk covered several topics such as writing effective title and abstract, common pitfalls, finding suitable journals for manuscript, indexing agencies, taking review on paper prior submission, tricks to fasten the process of publications and a hands on training on endnote software to manage data. Mrs Asma Khurshid gave away the concluding remarks of day first and insisted the participants to emotionally involve in their research activities. Faculty members, researchers and students from GCWUF and other universities have benefited this workshop.
