Right from the inception of Govt. College for Women, Madina Town, Faisalabad in 1934, the department of Urdu has played a prominent role in the promotion of Urdu language & literature. In 1985, post-graduate classes were started in Urdu & since then our students have not only won gold, silver & bronze medals on their academic achievements but also created new academic records. In 2013, it wasupgraded to university & MPhil (Urdu) classes started. In 2014, PhD (Urdu) classes were started. The department is making every effort to encourage & nourish creative talent as well as research attitude of students. Urdu language has become a craze all over the world. It has connected us with the literary tradition, great works of cross-cultural literary people and new critical theories prevalent in the modern literature.
No nation in the world has ever progressed without mastering itsown national language & the literature of every language is its real asset. Urdu is not only our national language but alsoone of the most popular oriental languages. Urdu has a vital role in nation building.Therefore, it becomes imperative to teach it on scientific grounds, in simple & interesting ways for better understanding of Urdu language & literature. Our mission is to produce researchers who will revive the classic heritage and also pass on this rich heritage to future generations. It is also our vision to merge classics of other languages by translating them into Urdu so that a universal literature will come into existence.
